Certification & traceability

Thanks to our close relationship and active engagement with our partners in our supply chain, we can offer our customer a wide variety of certified and traceable products such as Fairtrade, Organic and Rainforest Alliance. Customers can directly contribute to our sustainability projects, whereby we will build a dedicated supply chain for our customer, fully traceable up to farmer level and with measurable impact on farmer population and the farming environment.

No-deforestation

We strive to conduct business in an environmentally responsible manner and reduce the environmental impact of our global operations and help protect and conserve natural ecosystems. This includes contributing through our operations to the elimination of deforestation from our supply chains to help end global deforestation. We shall therefore not source from suppliers that cause or contribute to deforestation (cutoff date of 31 December 2020). We encourage our suppliers to implement their own ‘No Deforestation Policy and to promote the effective restoration and long-term conservation of protected areas.

Respect of human rights

We strongly condemn forced labour, child labour, slavery and all practices that exploit children and adults or expose them to harmful or hazardous conditions. Together with our supply chains partners, we will collaborate and develop programs to address the human rights risks in our supply chains. We thereby observe the principles set forth in the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work (1998) and align to the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights, UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and OECD Due Diligence Guidelines for Responsible Business Conduct.

Our Foundation

We have set up our foundation in 2023. Its purpose of the fund is to contribute to improving the livelihoods of the cocoa farming population and communities we source from. We do this by:

  • promoting education of children, promoting education and economic empowerment of youth and women in order to enable them to shape their own lives and society.
  • supporting projects related to access to healthcare
  • engaging in projects around environmental protection and prevention of deforestation

We have already set up a Microcredit project in the Dominican Republic and are with the foundation currently investigating other potential high impact projects.

Our story starts

in 1931

On 1 February 1931, Mr Adrianus Huyser (born in Amsterdam in 1892) registered the limited partnership A.L. Huyser & Co. in the Commercial Register in Amsterdam. As sole partner, he contributed 25,000 gilders and granted power of attorney to Mr Johan Frederik Möller (born in Amsterdam in 1902). The company began at Singel 390 in Amsterdam and was involved in the import, export and commission business of primarily cocoa products.

In 1933, the company moved to Reguliersdwarsstraat 108-144 in Amsterdam. In 1937, Mr Huyser had recorded in the Commercial Register that ‘the Company is currently running an import and export business in feed, cocoa products & Indian products’.

On 13 September 1939, Mr Möller joined as a second partner. Following the outbreak of the war, the company moved to Vossiusstraat 43 in Amsterdam and developed more activities: ‘currently import and export trade in the widest sense of the word’.

In 1943, the company changed its name to Huyser, Möller c.v. Following the difficult war years, the company began to focus on its original activities once again.

In the 1960s and 70s, Huyser Möller lost his role as commission agent (intermediary) and the company increasingly took responsibility for its own trading. In 1989, the company relocated to the Purmer region to the north of Amsterdam.

Between 1970 and 2005, Huyser Möller processed (cleaned) the cocoa in Terschuur. The processing unit then moved to Barneveld, where a storage unit was also added.

On 24 March 2006, Huyser Möller opened its doors to the new office premises in Edam.
